The Secrets of Successful Staff Engagement

Over the years, I’ve interviewed dozens of people as a business writer, about the topic of staff engagement and heard many views about how to most effectively win hearts and minds. My conclusion? At a fundamental level, achieving successful staff engagement will happen only if you follow the fundamental truth – treat others as you wish to be treated yourself. This applies not only to the way in which managers and business owners treat their employees but also to how their employees then go on to relate to their customers.

Are your employees responding to your customers with a willingness to listen, to assist with queries and problems? Are they fired-up with the desire to deliver the best possible service? . . . And with a smile? If not, it’s most likely because they are not sufficiently engaged and motivated. Do you know why? Do you know how they feel about you? Whether they are happy in their roles or planning to leave as soon as a better opportunity comes along? Are you losing too many skilled staff?

Staff who are engaged naturally perform better and add to the equity of an organisation because they will become the living embodiment of your brand values.
